The main purposes of adopting REMIT II are to strengthen market surveillance both at EU and national levels, to encourage open and fair competition in the internal electricity and gas wholesale energy markets, and ensuring a level playing field for market participants.
The aim of the REMIT II amendment is to improve the transparency of EU energy markets and to strengthen the protection against market manipulation. The amendments contribute to the stabilization of energy prices and the protection of consumers, as well as make the investigation of potential cross-border market abuse and related enforcement measures more effective.
